Overview

Nitrile Rubber Gasket Material Overview

Nitrile rubber (NBR), also known as Buna-N, is a synthetic rubber copolymer of acrylonitrile and butadiene. It is the most widely used elastomer in the sealing industry due to its excellent resistance to oils, fuels, greases, and hydraulic fluids. The acrylonitrile content determines the material's oil resistance and low-temperature flexibility — higher acrylonitrile content provides better oil resistance but reduced flexibility at low temperatures.

At Vertex Rubber, we offer nitrile gaskets in a range of acrylonitrile content (18% to 50%) to suit different application requirements. Our NBR gaskets are compression moulded and die-cut to precise tolerances, ensuring reliable sealing performance in demanding industrial environments.

FAQ

Nitrile Gasket FAQ

Nitrile rubber gaskets operate effectively from -30°C to +120°C. Special high-temperature compounds can withstand up to +150°C for short periods.
Yes, nitrile is the standard material for oil-resistant applications. It provides excellent resistance to mineral oils, vegetable oils, hydraulic fluids, fuels, and greases.
Nitrile offers better oil and fuel resistance at a lower cost, while silicone provides superior temperature range (-60°C to +230°C) and is FDA approved for food contact. Your choice depends on the application requirements.
